Day 2: Craft a character that's more than a name — with depth, nuance, and purpose
A weak main character dilutes your story faster than I can say "new movie who dis?"
When a main character lacks drive, purpose and momentum they are forgettable. Their like an ice cube - they water down your movie!Â
Instead, create characters with vision, momentum and depth that reaches beneath the surface - Iceberg Characters.Â
I'll hand you the exact strategy I use to develop a main character that grounds the plot and drives the experience.
Day 3: Leverage strong opposition capable of doing real damage
Your hero is only as good as it's opposition.
What's Batman without the Joker, Frankenstein without the Monster, Captain Jack without Barbosa, Luke without Vader? Pointless.
You could take everything you've learned so far and create a screenplay, but if you want to put jet fuel on your script, you need an opposition character that can go toe to toe with your hero.Â
Even if your opposition isn't "evil" that doesn't mean they don't test your character and take them to their limit.
Day 4: Master the Conflict Range and make your showdown feel inevitable
Escalating conflict leads to story momentum, character stakes, and audience retention
Each peak of the conflict range is greater than the last - on purpose!
This is the secret to a climactic ending. A finale worth watching. Conflict growth is the only way to avoid flat and repeatable conflict.
Keep the audience locked in for every peak and valley.Â
